Widen is a useful digital assets management software tool which makes it easy to store, access and share files across organizations. The ability to search huge digital content libraries with advanced filters across multiple entities almost instantaneously and share or distribute these files automatically once initially setup is a massive time saver. There are a good amount of resources available to get help on the Widen website including videos and webinars to help you get the most value out of it. I'm quite new to the software but I've read the company is diligent in regards to updating the software and features so that's always a plus. As well as good reviews for their customer service which I've simply not had a reason to use yet and know first hand. Widen would be especially useful for businesses which include a lot of other companies under their umbrella. I can imagine a company like Envato must use Widen or something like it to manage their digital content. Perhaps they use a proprietary software because they have a single access portal for all of their connected ecommerce stores. Though this DAM software suits them to a tee otherwise. And any stock content business online which is good to know. You can store anything in Widen that you can use online or in a media device like photos, videos, presentations, marketing materials, audio, stock and search an extremely organized database instantly. You have the ability to utilize advanced account roles and user permissions when granting access and distributing your digital asset library which basically speeds up everyone's job. Widen is a great tool to help manage your brand while it empowers end users especially team members who can reach across multiple departments and retrieve the assets they need with no manual time required by third parties. In fact, it fosters collaboration by having instant access to anything you can use from the library anytime even when in separate locations.

The pricing is very expensive although it's nice to be able to utilize a free trial which allows you to check the full functionality possible and whether the time savings created by using this software justifies ten to twenty three thousand or so US dollars per year to invest in. I'm quite certain that there would be industries which like to have a desktop based version in order to protect sensitive files. Though I'm confident some sort of local integration is possible if you paid enough for it. Having a batch renaming feature would be nice. I've dealt with this in the past and it's not fun. While it is possible using third party software it's going to take quite a lot longer to remove the files from Widen, rename them, and then upload the same file again simply called something different.

Widen is like Dropbox with greater search and distribution functionality which makes it suitable for businesses with large digital asset libraries whether it's image, audio, video, PDF or any other possible media type. Having experience managing large amounts of content I know first hand how cumbersome it is to drop everything you're doing in order to search for and then share a file, especially if it is large. So with Widen you can just setup permissions for various entities which interact with your content and then let it be. Everything runs itself once it's setup. Widen is a dream come true for companies with huge digital content assets to share and manage but it comes with a steep price that may be a deal breaker.
