This depends on your current technical background and the complexity of the web application you need to test. You do not have to be a familiar with any programming languages. Only basic knowledge of HTTP is required. However additional technical experience can help you understand the parameterization concept faster. In general, you can record a test and run it immediately (if it does not require parameterizing any session-specific values).
