What was the best part about using Tumblr?
This blogging site is well suited to our ecommerce based start up which is highly visual. It's simple to post images, stories, links, quotes, music and more. It's a great source for discovering niches or genre related news. Upon setting your account you're asked to follow some blogs you're interested in to get going. There is a showcase of the blogs which are trending. You can find people you know on the site it will integrate your email and Facebook contacts if you enable it to do so. It will also recommend various interests and related blogs for you. Posting is easy to do with a drop down menu from which you can choose the photo, quite, link, audio, video, chat or text icon. There is also a text editor with HTML if you're savvy using it. There are widgets you can place on your own blog as well including one for Google Adsense so you can potentially earn some passive revenue by using this platform.
What would you change about your experience with Tumblr?
There are not many ways to increase the visibility of your site with traditional traffic methods such as search engine optimization metadata fields on your blog. And there is a lack of analytic reporting as well. It seems the only way to gauge your growth is the number of blog followers. And according to quite a few reviews regarding the site there isn't the greatest moderation of content on the site as some of the blogs can be highly offensive to some and while I am all for freedom of speech and equal rights, I also appreciate respecting the boundaries of respect and good taste.
Overall Feedback
To be honest, I thought this site was based on being solely image based before I signed up, but it is a full blogging site based on user generated content. It's easy to begin using instantly and it's fun for discovering great content based on your interests. Ultimately, I believe it should be included in any integrated marketing campaign especially if your brand is visually based, but it should not be relied upon to create journalistic style blogs, or if you have the intent to earn revenue from it with the current promotional methods available.
