To say PeakAMS is comprehensive would be an understatement. Supposedly, the least expensive option (of their supposed four options) called the Camp. Reasonably priced at $199 per month and allowing up to 500 members, the Camp is no longer available. Why? (Verbatim from their website pricing page) “Due to the demand. We are currently not accepting customers of this size.” Huh? Is PeakAMS implying that the so-called “high demand” caused them to run out of their software? Or are they saying that the Camp’s cost/benefit ratio is no longer acceptable? Either way, customers with 500 or less members are driven to the next rung up the option ladder; which by default, has now become the least expensive “available” option. This option, named the Trail, allows up to 50,000 members and costs $799 per month. “Me thinks me smells something fishy.” This is an age old marketing ploy (a version of the bait and switch) and goes something like this, “Sorry Sir, but we sold out of that product you wanted. But, don’t dismay, all is not lost. Allow me to show you what we do have and it’s actually a better alternative...” Even the membership limits themselves (500, then 50,000, then, 100,000, and finally 100 million) seems arbitrary. Call me cynical...because I am. And without further explanation offered by PeakAMS, I’m inclined to believe that the Camp’s brief life, or even its very existence, and the ensuing pricing scenario is, at best, dubious.
