MongoDB

MongoDB is an open source relational database management software in which Ebay, Craigslist and FourSquare and other big companies use which lends to it's authority this innovation using NoSQL for their web based apps and big data. It uses strong consistency, secondary indexes and expressive query language to enable users to facilitate progress. This is a great choice of DB manager for start up companies based on the price tag along with the configuration and extensibility possible. It's relatively easy to use and be productive using. I was able to get using the application very quickly and found the user interface and dashboard to be straightforward and user friendly. There is a lot of configuration possible but it's manageable with your investment into learning it. The use of expressive query language and strong consistency make this a flexible and streamlined software. That fact that it's open source and freely available to configure to it's full potential is both outstanding as well as serious in terms of the time investment and challenges of development but worthwhile with it's robustness and ability to extend it's functionality in useful ways. There are a lot of things you simply cannot do well with a relational database and that includes the ability to reliably scale your project. That's the great thing about MongoDB is it's built with this big picture in mind. While the community is large, friendly and committed to helpfulness which is great. Open source based forums and communities are amazing places to connect and learn from regular users but you'll always find expert developers who are very generous with their time and will help you take the next steps if you're stuck. There's a large knowledge base along with various educational materials available to learn from also. So this value in the community is truly priceless and the overall business model that is open source; free in all it's meanings is a thing of beauty. And enables large companies to scale enough to serve the population their popular service many of which most of us can say are used daily or several times per month.

My understanding is that there are concurrency issues though, I'm a new user and cannot say so for certain quite yet but that would certainly effect some projects. I'm curious to know at which point you run into these issue exactly. And which aspect can be affected so then streamlined or prevented in the overall process. MongoDB is used by many of the largest businesses in the world which makes it reasonable to assume that it is incredibly stable considering the fact that Google, Ebay and Amazon Web Services use it so I don't understand how a scalable platform such as this can have concurrency issues but nonetheless it's worth keeping an eye on.

If you're a start up company in need of the ability to scale your business indefinitely using an open source solution though which will require custom development with time and capital investment but can be adapted to suit your needs in the big picture and for the long term then MongaDB could be a great fit and cost effective solution for your business.
