Minitab 17

Minitab was required for a university statistics course. It is less versatile than a calculator but also much more powerful and useful for statistical analysis. the UI was passable, although rather crowded.

If I could change things about Minitab: I would change the price, the downloading path and website, the program's UI, the fee involved if you wish to reinstall the program due to a computer crash, and the necessity of this program existing in the first place.

As I summarized in the title of this review, Minitab has limited applications and costs far more than it is worth. The only thing I have used it for is when my course required it. For all other functions I would use a calculator, up to and including almost all of the variance and data tests. Calculators can do those things nowadays. This program cost a lot, and was frankly not worth it. Avoid, if at all possible. And if you are considering using Minitab in a course which you are designing I have two pieces of advice: The first is to rethink if it's truly necessary. I will thank you on behalf of all the students who never have to even know this program exists. The second is to request the company change their draconian download policies and price in order to not discourage students from taking the course.
