Khan Academy

Khan Academy is an amazing non-profit educational platform with free world class education freely offered to everyone which is outstanding. I've just signed up to help take my coding skills to the next level. They are basic though I coded my first website from scratch using HTML and CSS this was nearly a decade ago already. Though I've used snippets of them on over two hundred websites since, I am grateful to brush up on these languages with a talk through and then hopefully connect them to something else most likely PHP though this is not available Khan for several reasons which I can understand; it's a server side language and would use too many resources for them mostly and as a non-profit they have to draw the line but you can learn PHP elsewhere. HTML and CSS are at the core of coding and a great set of starter languages which have improved my tech savvy in terms of communicating with developers. Taking care of a lot of custom Wordpress theme editing myself. They've helped me to troubleshoot issues in terms of the structure and function of all of the moving components that make up a website and online business much quicker overall. It was a challenge to learn them initially but after a couple of days immersed in the coding when it becomes much more intuitive there's a cool feeling of being empowered and a sense of purpose to increasing your self knowledge. Khan Academy makes this possible in many ways besides computing and that's awesome. This says a lot about the leadership of this non-profit. When you have expenses of nearly twenty million dollars per year and you are relying on donations and fundraising to go about increasing revenue that is a selfless act that I can imagine takes a lot of faith in humanity as well as a deep pocket book to do and I respect this very much. Education is simply the key to hope for our humanity. It's at the core of everything and this gentleman is facilitating great education for free. Thank you. I just noticed the partner programs which are amazing as well. I am going to take an abstract expressionism course from the Museum of Modern Art. How cool is that? There are lots of great museums represented there. The All Star Orchestra, Nasa, Pixar and Code.org to mention a few of my favorites. Wow!

There is a post-secondary module which helps you select the best school for you which is awesome but I am only seeing references on the module main page to the United States at the moment though the talk throughs are generally focused and would say the terminology applies across most international borders and is still very helpful.

I can honestly say I got a bit emotional when I was browsing their courses because I felt truly empowered not ever having imagined being able to learn from Pixar and The Museum of Modern Art in addition to the coding courses they are providing. And then realizing they are empowering so many people just like this for free struck me as a truly good and beautiful gesture for humanity. And I like that it empowers not only students but anyone to keep learning at any age. I feel that a lot of people seem to stop learning intently after school and sometimes it's because you have family or work priorities and only so much energy. But I feel it's important to acknowledge the flicker of passion for something that is authentically you such as a hobby or new career and takes even a few minutes per day over a longer period of time to keep learning. Keep taking steps. A few minutes per day of learning has you feel a sense of real momentum so to speak in this mind set. Which helps you take leaps and have 'light bulb' moments which stoke your passion and keep you wanting more. This few minutes per day to educate yourself about anything you're passionate about goes a long way to creating a sense of purpose in your otherwise routine responsibilities. Kahn Academy helps you do this and on your own schedule so why not? I'm in. You cannot recommend a software as a service any higher than I am for the Khan Academy. Their non-profit motivation is selfless and the education is excellent quality.
