GitHub's been around for a long time relatively speaking and it's a great community for collaborating on software projects. It's also a great place to host your software project. You can have peace of mind knowing your data is stored securely in the cloud while you can access it from any device where you have an internet connection which is great because you're always in sync that way. It's easy to handle pull requests in Github. You find it feels intuitive to apply, merge and close labels, add comments or to review them. The community is huge so the collective intelligence quotient is extremely valuable while GitHub is an authority and standard in the industry. It's awesome for developers to be able to work on any open source projects you want to. And it's a great place to host your own open source projects as well. The tools and infrastructure are world class and well refined by their large community over time. I like the innovation and constant new features and ongoing development. There is great issue tracking in GitHub so collaborating on issues and optimization is intuitive and easy to use. And GitHub makes it easy to reference your tickets for issue by commits which is a strong feature. You can also display commits by issue, of course. The largest open source library of software projects in the world is found on GitHub. Just for signing up you gain access to a lot of command line and code management tools. There is a command language to learn but it's quite easy to learn. And there's open source licensing options which can be applied to your software through your GitHub account as well. I like the forking option where you can begin working on basically any open source application completely along on your own path. While the ability to copy repos via HTTP or SSH is always useful too.

The paid private repositories for open source or non-profit projects may not always be a viable long term option. It would get quite pricey with lots of repos to keep private. Certain third party tools to further extend GitHub's usability would be cool such as Docker, for example. The workflows could be improved when making changes and fixes to become simpler and less redundant. The review capabilities could be better.

The open source foundation which GitHub is built upon allows you to join others and make connections while contributing in useful way on important projects and that's a source of pride for many. GitHub is a fantastic place to learn. The community is friendly and helpful so if you've ever been afraid to ask for help you do not need to be any more. Beside the vibrant, helpful community the collective intelligence applied to so many projects is the most powerful feature facilitated by GitHub. It's always to your advantage and best interest to surround yourself with other like minds. And experts you can learn from. GitHub is this and it's a vital part of the software community.
