Extensis Portfolio

This is a digital asset management software as a service I tried out recently on behalf of a photographer friend with an extensive portfolio to help him learn if it was the best fit for his business, or not. It's cloud based which is great to have access anywhere and on any device. Though you can have it on premise as well to make use of your existing hardware if that's the case. I found the account to be very user friendly with it's functionality and intuitive to learn. It's easy to upload, organize and track your digital assets. You could upload millions of images and track them much easier than if you were to use Amazon S3 or Box.com for example as it's designed with advanced features specifically for this purpose. Metadata, SKU's and product information can all be tracked. There are user roles and permissions you can delegate as the admin and an watermarking option for particular content. The batch processing is one of the strongest features and allows you to convert files in several ways and file types.

I don't see any activity logs or historical audit reporting features as there are in the competition digital asset management software I've tried. While it may not be as important for a solo based business, it could prevent an issue or speed up searches in a team situation certainly, in my opinion. And I wish they were transparent about the pricing on their site. I appreciate why they do not from a business point of view but their competition do so far and have more features, so it would be nice to compare them up front in my opinion.

This is the simplest out of the box digital asset management I've used so far. It felt as if I had used it before, or perhaps it was simply that intuitive upon immediately logging in so that was great. And I'll certainly recommend that my photographer friend has a look for his growing business and then reaches out to them to learn pricing. Though he has tens of thousands of photos and the ease of use is appealing, whether the lack of audit and activity tracking is an issue for him is yet to be determined. Otherwise, I recommend including it in your research among the best digital asset management softwares on the market.
