Ellucian

The software appears robust and responds quickly. Once in the system, while the interface is a bit primitive and clunky, it appears functional.

In short, the usability sucks. The interface has every appearance of being designed by the same people who coded it. Coders almost always make crappy Designers (I have decades of experience in this). Displayed information is sparse. Worse yet, information displayed, Menus, Feedback, Input sections are TINY. ADA Facilitators take note: there may be a visibility issue here. Feedback is of the unhelpful and often cryptic "ERROR" type: users are not told of how an entry is invalid until after its been submitted. This is precisely analogous to telling a student they have failed a course without telling them the rules beforehand (think: that dream where you show up for the Final). Example: there are often several requirements when specifying a PIN (letter cases, numerics, etc.) - the user only receives feedback in an unfriendly manner AFTER the entry has been made. The last thing any educational institution wants to do is raise the anxiety level of its students. This software is guaranteed to do so. C'mon, Ellucian, it's not 1975 anymore! (Curious? Compare to how THIS website looks and functions compared to Ellucian's software).

In short, it appears to provide powerful tools for a school's records management - but with poor interface design and at the cost of unnecessarily making things more difficult for those of us accessing our records. You can be certain of having to spend a good deal of time dealing with this shortcoming.
