Braintree

BrainTree is an online and mobile payments vendor with many possible integrations to help you extend your sales seamlessly and securely across web and mobile. It's a PayPal company so they have a great backer with a solid reputation which I've used hundreds of time to make and receive payments. I as very curious as to the difference between BrainTree and Paypal as well as Stripe. Paypal is definitely more do it your self it seems. Stripe is very similar in a lot of ways though it is not as configurable as Braintree in that you can integrate with your own merchant software if you've developed this and other common merchant software as well from Magento to Woocommerce and many more. BrainTree seems a bit more internationally friendly with more countries available and over one hundred and thirty different currencies accepted when taking payments. Though you can only settle funds in about a dozen or so, I believe. The fact that Braintree integrates so well with Paypal is definitely a significant factor to consider. It also integrates with their other service called Venmo which is a free digital wallet allowing you to share payments with friends and family which is cool. Stripe and Braintree both offer dispute resolution though Braintree does have quicker settlements with an average of two to four days compared to seven for Stripe, which has been the main drawback to using Stripe twice in the last couple of years. I activated Stripe from my accounting software online and received a couple payments from clients but compared to an one hour or less email money transfer at a dollar fifty which rather than a seven business day wait and nearly three percent of my revenue plus the transaction fee. Three to four days is much better and has me considering this for our retail start up. The focus on secured, seamless mobile payments is a solid reason to use this platform. The company definitely has some marquee clients which helps vouch for it's reliability and scalability. The processing and transaction fees are exactly the same as Stripe as well at 2.9% plus thirty cents per transaction, as are the dispute fees at fifteen bucks. Though Stripe will refund you if the dispute is in your favor.

I personally find Strip and Paypal much more user friendly as a small business. BrainTree seems life more of a mid-size to enterprise class merchant payment solution as the configuration out of the box is much more robust with the ability to develop your solution and customize according to your needs which is important if you have a thriving business. Though as a start up or small business something which works right out of the box like Stripe or Paypal is all that you really need to get going in my opinion.

I am glad to have learned BrainTree as it is a highly configurable payment solution with standard fees and outstanding service by almost all accounts. I like several standard features which are essential when considering a merchant solution such as having a flexible pricing schema as well as how it retries failed subscription payments. Analytic reporting is quite sound although the configurability enables this to be basically what you need it to be. The push notifications are good to have there's almost nothing better than getting texted you have just had a sale in my opinion. The focus on mobile payments and security are what differentiate it somewhat from others as well as the tight integration with Paypal and Venmo. Overall, I would say if you're a small business choose Paypal if you have minimal technical savvy as it is super easy to begin selling with it. Consider Stripe if you have some technical know how and want more robust features out of the box. And BrainTree if you're already a mid-size or enterprise level company considering a switch for better mobile payment processing, better bulk fees or integration with Paypal and Venmo as well.
