Autodesk Inventor

Inventor is a cool software which helps you to create mechanical designs in 3D as well as product simulations and documentation. While it facilitates creativity in that it's flexibility allows you to be empowered when making assemblies or parts. I like some specialized tools like the structural frame generator and the stress analysis. You're able to collaborate with others using their vault feature while it's easy to import and open a lot of different file types as well which is always good. You can create detailed installation views and reuse data which are all significant time savers. The 3D layout and ability to create fabrication and installation drawings is very useful. The user interface and overall layout of Inventor are relatively intuitive and straightforward. All of the functionality is quite self evident which makes it easier to teach yourself and teach others perhaps as well. Once you start playing around with a focus on learning you can create quite complex multi-part assemblies more than likely inside a day or two. I like that you can put together parts in a connected assembly which is to scale and can be replicated exactly physically. And that you can create large assemblies with dozens or hundreds or even thousands of parts capable of motion with precision. I've noted that by most accounts this software is very stable especially in a network environment which is great though am still doing testing on my end. I like there is a lot of customization to your design and patterns and templates available in the software which help speed up your process and that you can conceptualize, design and render parts to be fabricated or machined it depends on your particular needs. There are a lot of educational materials and documentation available for Inventor which will help you take the majority of the learning curve quickly. There's a community available online for Inventor as well. It's very active with quite a dedicated user base which you can tap into as well which is a definite plus.

It's quite a resource heavy software so definitely ensure that you have enough specs and storage on your hard drive for the long term. I've just begun with Inventor but I've read there can be challenges when syncing AutoCAD with Inventor, though I've also read that it works very well with it so I'm just curious about this at the moment. If you're a casual user it may be more challenging to pick up this software and generate a product over the weekend. The user functionality is quite easy to learn and as such facilitates your creativity and that's the beauty of this software. But it is a professional program and there is a lot to learn even it is all manageable and made to be easy to learn as possible.

The overall interface and layout of the Inventor CAD system are logical and intuitive. It is easy enough to learn that it can be taught and used by high-schoolers with minimal oversight; it is easy to get from novice to building relatively advanced multi-part assemblies with only a few hours of time using the software. The assembly feature of the product is quite useful because it allows multiple parts to be connected and rendered exactly as they will be realistically, helping to avoid mistakes due to misplaced attachments points or incorrect sizes. At the end of the day, you can create concepts, design them and render these concepts into accurate 3D models which can be manufactured into real products. I like this software and am thankful to have been able to check it out. I would recommend to anyone to do the same.
