It has the major AutoCAD functionality along with specialized but complete libraries of parts and tools available which makes it easier to use. You can use this version to effectively adapt changes in your process that help you improve ongoing with plenty of layouts, drawing, drafting, mapping options to take advantage. For a nearly eight gigabyte software, the download and the installation only took about ten minutes with my wireless connection. I imagine that will be a laughable statement in about five years or so but nonetheless it was pretty good. If you have used other AutoCAD software in the past you will like that the functionality, menus and so on carries over for the very large part from there flagship version which makes learning much faster. The layering and blocking are both strong features. The software helps you to produce great layouts and designs across a variety of industries with a good tool library and functionality to help you have a standardized system for all of your parts. I like that you can create such a variety of parts and layouts with the ability to analyze especially in 2D quite in depth. One tip you do well to take advantage of is the use of keyboard shortcuts to help you become much more efficient. If you search Google images especially when just starting out with a new software you can find image maps with all of the shortcuts on a single page so you can refer faster than hovering over the tool or looking in your settings. I can stress this enough. When I started doing this upon learning a new in depth software like AutoCAD or Illustrator learning the keyboard shortcuts first connects you to the overall functionality in the most direct way. While you can start to note how you prefer your shortcuts and eventually get to the point where you're customizing them to suit you and this is when you start getting much faster in my opinion. Once you proficient there are a ton of add-ons and apps you can integrate for highly specialized uses which is pretty cool having so much done for up front in certain instances saving you time. I was quite impressed with the variety currently available in fact it was a bit overwhelming to consider but it's a good issue for the most part.

There is a massive learning curve to all of the AutoCAD software though it does help some that functionality is similar across their software but at the core the sheer amount of capabilities possible take a serious investment in order to become proficient. I am dedicated and persistent but it is a challenge. I like to get to the point where you are deducing from a whole as quickly as possible when learning anything new and find it unusually unintuitive in AutoCAD. I have had better luck with other CAD software in terms of facilitating better workflows but that's only my opinion.

AutoCAD mechanical adds better detailing in this version compared to their vanilla version. It also adds standard libraries of parts which can save a lot of time especially if there are two dimensional elements in your project. This version also adds a content center. And it has much better design features geared towards mechanical, industrial, manufacture engineering than the basic version. But it does require that you know AutoCAD initially pretty much before you can apply more specialized elements of Mechanical for it's particular purposes. It isn't entirely dedicated to it like an Inventor or SolidWorks and that's up to you to decide if it suits your needs, or not.
