What was the best part about using Asana?
Asana is a team and project management and tracking software which enables sales teams to move through the customer lifecycle with increased efficiency and to help close deals. This software works with Android and iOS mobile devices though it's a bit slow on my older iPhone..
It's a free software for teams of up to fifteen people. There are limitations in the free versions but this is to be expected from their business perspective. Paid plans include premium features for about $9 per user, per month. The free plan includes basic dashboard, unlimited communication, tasks & projects for up to fifteen people. Anything free nowadays that's not a limited trial is worth checking out including Asana.
This project manager removes emailing about projects externally between team members. Notes can be shared along with tasks and attachments, with public and combined tasks, task priorities, workflows, notifications for updates and completion of tasks; along with deadlines, adding followers to tasks and a gratitude emoticon. I like the internal features in Asana.
The inbox is the central location for receiving notifications about project and task activities. Whether tasks have been assigned, due, updated, changed or completed along with attachments added. The idea is to empower team work with efficient communication to plan and organize, share and track progress on tasks that lead to project completion and Asana does a fair job of it. It's possible to lead multiple teams and projects while tracking progress of individuals within any team.
Asana allows teams to share, plan, organize, and track the progress of the tasks that each member is working on. The multiple workspaces give you a place to organize multiple teams, projects and tasks and to stay abreast of progress without the need for back-and-forth email threads. As well as prioritize and delegate tasks. An open API is available for integrating Asana into other software applications if you need to extend the functionality it can be done.
The tracking of several projects with a priority list of tasks on my own calendar is a strong feature. As well as sharing tasks among team members. The Focus Mode is nice for removing distractions from the dashboard. Monitoring the progress of tasks with search and project sections is useful. The ability to view the history of projects and tasks is good as well as setting project permissions to specific team members. Grouping tasks is important when utilizing goal setting or deadlines. As well as uploading attachments to tasks, and notifications of changes in task and project progress.
What would you change about your experience with Asana?
I wish all tasks from various project could be viewed in one single calendar and perhaps highlighted accordingly. Or all of the tasks required by a specific set of team members across projects. The visual aspect of the dashboard can be improved and therefore not as intuitive as it could be. And the inability to assign attachments to multiple projects at once is another area to be improved. I've read that certain integrations don't play well with Asana but that could very well be based on the technical experience of these Asana users too.
Overall Feedback
Asana has a lot of features and is certainly worth a try to learn if it suits your team considering they offer a free version. There is nothing to lose. Perhaps you will find it more intuitive with less to learn up front based on your experience. Either way you have to appreciate the price tag to learn it more in depth.
