Apple iOS

I've used Apple iOS on my iPhone for almost six years. In that time it's never failed and my iPhone 4 remains useful and reliable to this day. I feel fortunate that I've not had to worry about upgrading my phone during that time even though there have been at least four new iPhones released since. Though I now use both iPhone and Android every day. The user interface for Apple iOS is relatively easy to understand and use. I definitely appreciate the quality of apps made available for the Apple iOS. You can always count on the apps in the store to be quality. The selection process is quite thorough and they don't allow many spammy or low quality apps to get through. None in my experience. The thing I personally like the most is the care Apple puts in reviewing and selecting apps: being in a team with various iOS developers, I can see the pain when they submit an app for the review. This process can take weeks and you have to give the best in order to have your app on the store. This lets every user enjoy the best possible products: it's not a perfect process, but at least it clearly shows a care for the user experience that you cannot find everywhere. The value available in the app store is remarkable. There are lots of great free apps. I use an app called AppsGoneFree which points to five to seven apps which usually have a price tag that are available free for a limited time. But even if you have to make a purchase they are rarely more than $1-4 which is crazy considering as much or more time goes into development of these apps as regular software and are usually a tenth the price or so. The most expensive apps I've seen in the app store are $20 or so and that's quite rare to see. Still not bad at all.

I'm now receiving warnings when I login to some apps such as the official NHL app which states they will no longer be supporting my version of iOS for much longer. Which is unfortunate as I should have been forced to spend several hundred dollars to upgrade my phone though I ended up getting a great deal. If you've never used Apple products before there is a learning curve to using their functionality quickly. It's almost simple in an extreme sense whereby what you need to do is probably right in front of you but it's not made obvious. I take responsibility for that too because when your excited to use your new iPhone it's not fun to read the manual first. I remember months into having my iPhone still learning about various swipes and other functionality that were possible. Connecting your iPhone content such as videos or photos was initially a challenge as I thought you had to use an iPhone app to sync to my computer in order to transfer content there. But it turns out it's easiest to use the download to phone option, and then email the photo or video from the download area. Or at least that's my experience. There's probably a simpler way. There are icons on the bottom of the page once you've selected your media which will bring up the email option. But the icons are not labeled in text so there was a lot of trial and error involved and it initially took way more time than it should have. There is security in the fact that with Apple you're only able to use their app store and iTunes which have been regulated with quality control testing. But it comes at a price compared to Android devices as there is not as much customization or as many apps to choose from.

The reliability of the Apple products is best. I've had very few issues and those I did have were resolved by cycling power to my phone simply by turning it off and then on to complete and update. I've setup many folders filled with awesome apps for to do lists, music, photography, video, business, sports, news and more. I use Apple iOS every single day to pursue my interests and take care of my daily responsibilities. It's an invaluable tool and gets my highest recommendation.
