Adobe Reader Mobile

Adobe Reader Mobile is a freely available app in the iPhone app store and Google Android app store as well to download and beginning using to view PDF reports. It actually has a lot more functionality than I though would be possible using a free app and PDF files. You can convert PDF's into Word or Excel files in order to edit them. It does this for you from the Reader app if you select this feature from the top menu. You have a couple of viewing modes including Continuous and Single Page. And you can edit on top of the current PDF content in quite a few ways as well including the ability to add a sticky note, highlight selected text, strike through text, underline text, add text, draw using your finger or a stylus if you have a touch sensitive phone or tablet as well as add your signature which is a whole lot more than I thought you could do with the free Adobe Reader app so it's got that going for it. You are able to share files right from the app too. Or share a public link. I like that you can open the PDF in another app on my phone. When you choose this option it shows you a scrollable list of compatible apps currently on your phone which is helpful. You can also print right from the app which could certainly serve a purpose if an old school client wants a physical copy of a contract or something else similar. When you share documents you have a choice to share the original document or a flattened copy that will no longer be editable at all. And most likely be more compatible across devices and browsers. It would also allow you to share via email which is the best advantage to sharing a flattened image. When you choose to share a public link it will ask you to login to your Adobe.com account so I did so and apparently there it is saved to the cloud storage available there which I did not realize. I do have a trial set up to use Photoshop latest version from the cloud so this makes sense if it is a paid feature that will not be available should I not continue with the paid subscription. Though I will be pleasantly surprised if there is free cloud storage even if rather limited I find secondary storage in the cloud to be a valuable asset both personally and professionally and I am grateful for it.

There is a promo in your app with an offer to upgrade to their premium plan for $13.99 per month which enables you to convert images into PDF files. You can also create PDF's from Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel files. You can convert images and scanned documents so that's cool. And you can export PDF files into Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel which is great. I like all of this functionality I just wish it was available in your free account. Though I can understand their reasons. There is a night mode too which made the sample PDF turn into a black and white file. Everything remained the same otherwise. Is this because it is easier to adjust your eyes to black and white at night? Because in the light currently it was harder to read. It did not seem as crisp as the full color version though I am not an expert in the field I believe I would choose the color version to read at night it seems brighter overall.

Overall, this is a worthy free app to have on your phone. I have used it numerous times over the years primarily to learn. PDF is such a popular format this was one of the first apps I installed when I got an iPhone in 2010. To be honest I have yet to upgrade because I can't decide on which path to go there are so many options. And with virtual reality and 3D sensor technology and other considerations such as phone versus tablet enter the decision making it a tough one. I may wait for the iPhone 7. Meanwhile, I am glad to say my iPhone 4 still works great and so does the Adobe Reader Mobile app on iOS 7 which is the top version possible on this iPhone. It's very fast loading and works seamlessly. Highly recommended.
