Piwik is an open source analytics and reporting software which is freely available to download, install and begin using immediately. Though I was also interested in the cloud based premium version and so have installed it on our website and am currently reviewing the data. The process of signing up and getting going was very good. It was a seamless process which only took a few minutes which is great. To have such a great platform to help you analyze and optimize data which can grow your revenue is terrific. I see this as a solid secondary source of metrics by which we can use to validate other analytic sources we currently employ such as MixPanel, Google Analytics and Microsoft Power BI. You can customize your account in a good number of ways to suit your company or organization. You can rebrand the platform which is a great way to add a touch of professionalism to your business while allowing access to clients. Clients can have a portal login for themselves in which they can check out their data which is always good. You have access to useful insight such as traffic, keyword source, bound rate and other ways to know about your campaigns. I like that you have an overview on the home page of your account with a lot metrics available at a glance such as engagement, traffic, downloads, visitor software and browser information and much more. The event log system is excellent and can be customized as well. And there is the ability to use plugins as well which is solid. There are a good amount of free plugins available to help extend your Piwik functionality by a lot. I am very impressed and found it great that you can make this much more powerful in numerous ways. And there's not anything available in the paid plugins area which is interesting though I am fine with that, of course. While there are a few free themes too including a cool dark theme which helps your data stand out and has the account be much more visual in my opinion.

As it is open source I often find it difficult to find complete documentation in one place. It seems that you do well to utilize forum searches and Google searches in general along with the documentation and resources they do have available. You can add multiple web assets to track from your account which is cool and the real time map feature is useful by sharing website or app visitor locations which could be especially helpful seasonally for example. Creating traffic and conversion reports requires a bit of effort more than other platforms perhaps. The ability to view your data from year to year or in larger segments somehow would be useful. And I find some of the export features to be limited comparatively speaking. I have read about query time out issues when analyzing reaching a certain level of event logs. And it's difficult to analyze user behavior it seems you can only do this from the access logs which have been configured.

This software is open source which is great that means it's free but you should consider that there may be a cost to have expert help implement it the most optimal way. Though the analytics themselves are the most advanced in the market for example you cannot analyze categorical conversions or segmented conversions with it's basic functionality and there would be an investment to make this happen. You can utilize this platform to analyze mobile apps and web pages, online applications and websites so it is versatile certainly. Another good things is the ability to maintain secure data on your own server as this is a local server software installation. Overall, the front end data discovery is quite good a definitely helpful especially as way to validate other platforms and you can't beat the cost as long as you are somewhat savvy or have the initiative you can get most of it running smoothly on your own quickly.
