What was the best part about using Expensify?
I like several features about Expensify; it makes it so simple to make tedious tasks a thing of the past. Everything to streamline the expense and receipt accounting process is possible in a few clicks. What used to take hours or even days is almost completely automated. It would allow mid-size and large businesses to increase efficiency in the accounting department in a drastic way. The best thing about Expensify is ease of use, especially while traveling. You can take a picture using your smartphone of any receipt and select the correct expense report category when sending it and it's done. You can utilize spreadsheet and PDF export functionality with unlimited scans included in their paid plans. Pricing is incredibly reasonable starting at $5 per user, per month including expense approval, online reimbursement, Quickbooks and Xero sync with email and chat support. That's great value.
For $9 per month, per user you get all of the previous features plus corporate credit card reconciliation, integration with CRM's, policy enforcement and multiple stage approval functionality. That's tremendous value under $10 U.S. per user, month. With a free trial available and no credit card required you can easily see for yourself how easy Expensify makes expense reports. Accounts also include unlimited SmartScans and invoicing, bulk report processing while currency conversion is automated as well. Having all contractor or employee expense report in one centralized location makes it easy to analyze an overview of your company spending. This is a massive time saver in itself. You can drill down to analyze expenses using categories, by merchant or an employee's individual expenses.
The SmartScan functionality in this app is powerful and a huge time saver. It can recognize details in receipts automatically to minimize the manual process greatly. By all accounts in my research the accuracy of this feature is excellent. That means the OCR software integrated into this system is useful even when it's analyzing a receipt that is hand written.
What would you change about your experience with Expensify?
It's good to be aware of roaming charges involved when uploading images and sending them to your Expensify account. Roaming charges remind me of how long distance worked in the 1980's. I can imagine a day they will be a thing of the past. One solution may be to choose when to upload current expenses which have been logged in the mobile to be uploaded later when roaming charges are less, or not applicable. There may be a learning curve when using SmartScan functionality with certain smartphones, or if someone is very non-technical. I've read another use of intelligent software analyzing would be if Expensify could automatically match receipts with bank transactions. Custom fields in Expensify could have more advanced functionality.
