What was the best part about using Eclipse?

This open source IDE (integrated development environment) for Java though it's also has a PHP IDE and a C/C++ IDE which makes it a very powerful choice in that it's free in the truest sense of the word, which also makes it ultimately customizable and extensible, and it's been developed over time by a large, active community and it's come a long way. I like you can run Eclipse on any platform so there are virtually no limitations and this versatility can be useful. You're able to access targets remotely and tools for debugging. There's a challenge to master it though plenty of resources and documentation to learn from including the community itself. Open source folks tend to be friendly and helpful and I'm thankful for it. If you don't have the means or time for conventional education then open source software and their respective communities are invaluable ways to lessen your learning curve. It's a great IDE for Java but a lot of other languages but you can add plugins and integrate third party stuff too. The refactoring support is very good with strong functionality. The search and navigation feature is solid and it uses Javadoc no problem to produce HTML for API's from Java. Formatting work well along with the clean up tools. You can handle syntax and editing using a variety of file types in a bunch of different markup and programming languages. While is you can adapt how the rules for formatting work according to your requirements. The user interface is relatively user friendly and easy to enough to begin using right away. There's a lot of functionality but it's well presented and easy to follow. I like that you can adapt your view to suit different usages and use shortcuts to help speed up your searches, coding and maintain the overall process efficiently. The library management is also very useful for organizing.

What would you change about your experience with Eclipse?

It's quite a large software and definitely relatively complicated so if you're a newbie then you're likely faced with a curve to do it yourself. I wanted to learn the core functionality and terminology so I can enable my projects to be as efficient as possible and Eclipse allows me to do that directly because it's open source so I can download it and ask questions through the actual dashboard developers will be using, or provide me enough common features to relate to other IDE software. And there's a vast amount of resources to help me along. Make sure you have plenty of resources on your hardware system to be on the safe side as it's relatively intensive to use though mostly for larger projects it seems very quick so far as a new user. The user interface while relatively easy to use and follow along looks quite old school and use a decent design update in my opinion.

Overall Feedback

It's important to note that it's possible to get into a good workflow using Eclipse so you can code as fast as you can think about it, which is what a good integrated development environment does to help you be more efficient and productive. I believe the code assistance feature, the refactoring support and the quick fixes are incredibly helpful features that make it possible to streamline your programming. I am thankful for such a valuable free resource to learn from directly with a great community too.
