Can Google and AscendTMS Revolutionize The Trucking Industry?

Google already owns the search world, and they are making great strides in home automation, and other areas needing a “refresh”. So, why not trucking? Google engineers have been working on Electronic Logging Devices (ELD’s) for years with KeepTruckin. Why? Because the government mandates that every truck in the nation needs to have one in their cab on or before December 17th, 2017.

AscendTMS, the number 1 ranked transportation management software (TMS), also announced that they will integrate with Google’s KeepTruckin, the new Google Ventures backed Electronic Logging Device (ELD) company. KeepTruckin will also offer AscendTMS to their customers, for free, to manage any trucking business, from dispatch to accounting, asset management to driver pay, and document management to real-time load funding.

So, what does this mean to you, the asset based carrier, shipper, or freight broker – and to the trucking industry in general? It means that a full TMS solution AND an ELD solution has never been so accessible (and, “Google-esque” in nature). And, like Google itself, it’s free to the end user. The reason for this is likely that Google wants the data. Knowing almost everything about truck drivers, trucks, cargo movements and other information is both powerful and valuable.

Remember the days of needing a $2,000 GPS unit in the truck and hundreds more per month for “data services” (and never knowing what the final monthly bill would cost). Well, new technology has seemingly driven that cost to $0 with Google and AscendTMS involved. And, that’s the power of Google – they are driving down costs even in old school “traditional” industries like trucking.

Don’t you just love technology (and Google)!!!
