Is Accelerating DevOps the Key to Increased Revenues?

DevOps has become a common term in all digital enterprises. The entrepreneurs realize the potential of an amalgamated team in comparison to segregated SBUs that are not as efficient as a combined SBU. With a rise in number of organizations taking DevOps seriously, experts suggest that a streamlined and focused approach is sure to enhance the revenues derived from your DevOps. This blog will reveal the aspects that experts suggest focusing on. There is nothing like a guaranteed approach when it comes to revenues. But, the aspects discussed here are very close to guaranteeing profits.

What Are the Parameters?

Every company’s business model differs and so does its expectations. Therefore, having a perfect plan that fits-all situations is not possible. Companies should first identify the core areas that they will focus on. This can be one area at a time or a combination of two or more.

  • Testing: Yes, we are in the Software business and testing is the heart. There is no denial of the fact the efficient testing makes a difference. You might not see much of a difference if you are evaluating a month’s effort; but, when you see the consolidated effort spent by your team in fixing issues that could have been avoided by a simple test, you would agree with the importance.
  • Consistency: Many times businesses employ solutions that are good; but a lack of consistently implementing them or adhering to them makes them a flop. Ensure that whenever you want to incorporate a plan or a solution, you maintain consistency and also be patient over a period of time to see results. After all, Rome was not built in a day.

How Do You Accelerate DevOps Using These Parameters?

The factors look pretty simple and most of the organizations would already be having a testing team or managers to deploy solutions effectively. But, there are a few underlying aspects within each of these that are specific and can help you plan the right course of action depending on your organizational structure and work.

There are multiple ways of testing a Software. A few useful ones that work well and deliver results are:

  • Split Tests
  • Canary Tests
  • Regression Tests

The consistency point that we discussed above also has a few subsets that require frequent checking and continuous monitoring. These include:

  • Integration Systems
  • Deployment Processes

In this case, the integration and deployment process require consistent updates and monitoring because of their close association with the testing process. A simple change made in the testing process would require changes in integration and hence deployment.

What Other Factors Should Be Kept in Mind?

Besides the focus on testing and continuity, DevOps is all about the resources a company is using. Therefore, it is important to have strongly defined key responsibility areas (KRAs) for what each individual is required to do. This prevents overlapping duties and conflicts. Additionally, focusing on individual stages to enhance the entire process is the key.

Returns or investments triggered by DevOps are what everyone is looking for and it requires patience for a process to show results. Share your thoughts and experiences on DevOps with us in the comment section.
