This software is like a swiss army knife in that it is well rounded and includes all of the AutoCAD features and functionality available. There are a wide variety of objects you can create easily most of which tend to be polygonal in nature. There are a ton of tools for editing and manipulating your creations. The subdivision surface modeling feature is especially cool. And I like the Max Creation Graph feature which allows you to create geometric objects, utilities, and modifiers and share them. The lighting and illumination features are very good. The overall lighting and bouncing light are life like and enhance the realism of video games, tv or movie rendering. The texturing is very good as well and you can use a paintbrush to do so much like Photoshop which is great and highly creative and you don't have to skin the model initially. You can burn light and shadows into your textures which make the rendering quicker in your applications. Using IK and FK support you can create moving skeletons and the pose blender can help speed up the process once you have it setup the way you want. The ability to use scripts or keyframes to create sequenced animations is cool. And applying motion capture data can make your animations relatively life like. While you can add audio and work out each scene quite in detail. There is a massive learning curve for this software though the benefit is having full control of every parameter once you have the hang of it. I would highly recommend Lynda.com for their tutorials which are incredible and professional as the most cost effective way to get the best training. You can also dive into their documentation. It's not as thorough as you may expect but perhaps a good starting point. There are also a lot of free tutorials on Youtube and Google which can only help to minimize the curve. The single most helpful practice which proves itself is to do a Google images search for 'AutoCAD keyboard shortcuts' or '3ds max design keyboard shortcuts' in order to find a graphic with of them in a single place. This is the fastest way to have hands on experience with the fastest way to use the software while learning it at the same time. I can't recommend this practice highly enough and with popular software, you will have no problem finding these.

The price is going to limit their market though I am sure it is lucrative for them it is very aggressive considering the base price does not include support which is an extra cost. When you charge this much for something that essentially runs itself after having this much refinement over the years and don't include support at this price, well good on them. But at several thousand dollars or almost two hundred bucks for a monthly subscription that's a lot. And there are a lot of other options in the marketplace so do your homework. If you can utilize another software which exports files in this format than that may be more practical. As long as you can pass AutoCAD file formats to others you can save money with other solutions and still work with any professionals in the field. It's also a huge installation without a ton of customization options to start with so ensure you have a fast, dedicated local server as well as lots of memory and a current graphics card.

3DS Max Design is a computer modeling software by AutoDesk, famous for its AutoCAD software which is the industry standard by most professionals. While you are in control of every possible aspect by using this software you are faced with a large price tag and a steep learning curve. And to be honest I much prefer the user interface in Maya. The difference is sort of night and day in terms of user experience design but that is just my opinion. The extensibility of 3DS Max Design is one of the best reasons to consider using it because there is an awesome selection of mods and plugins you can download and install super quick which is a gigantic time saver if you can find what you need, and with the popularity of AutoDesk products there is a very good chance if you are thinking about something it has already been done, so you can leverage this work and speed up your own productivity greatly.
